Making friends in Finland as an introvert

2025-08-07 14:00 Adaptation
Making friends as an adult isn’t easy. Making friends in a new country? Even harder. And if you’re an introvert… well, it can feel almost impossible, we feel you.
But Finland can actually be a great place for introverts to connect. Why? Because small talk isn’t a big thing here. People value personal space, and when you do make a connection, it’s usually genuine and long-lasting.
We’ve been building our professional community for over 5 years, and it has already grown to more than 10,000 members! We know from experience that finding “your people” here is absolutely possible!

✅ Start with structured activities

Join a language café, a sports club, a cooking class, or a volunteer group. Having something to do makes conversations feel more natural.

✅ Join professional communities

Networking here isn’t only for extroverts. Meetups, job fairs, or Nerdsbay events are great ways to meet like‑minded people.

✅ Choose small groups over big parties

Finnish culture values smaller circles. Instead of going to crowded events, invite one or two people for coffee or a walk.

✅ Start online — that’s perfectly fine!

Many friendships in Finland begin in Telegram, LinkedIn, or Facebook groups for expats. Online chats often lead to real‑life meetups.
✅ If you’re looking for even more options, here’s a whole list of communities in Finland that might interest you.
